Prophecies
& Fulfillments
Concerning
Christ’s
Death,
Burial, and Resurrection
MOCKING
THE MESSIAH
Prophecy:
Psalm 22:7-8 All they that see
me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, He
trusted on the Lord that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he
delighted in him.
Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:67-68 Then did they
spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of
their hands, Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
Matthew 27:31 And after that
they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment
on him, and led him away to crucify him.
Matthew 27:39-44 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging
their heads, And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in
three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. Likewise
also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved
others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come
down from the cross, and we will believe him He trusted in God; let him deliver
him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God. The thieves
also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
MESSIAH
WOULD BE BEATEN BEFORE KILLED
Prophecy:
Isaiah 50:6 I gave my back
to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not
my face from shame and spitting.
Fulfillment:
Matthew 26:67 Then did they
spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of
their hands,
Matthew 27:26 Then released he
Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to
be crucified.
CRUCIFIED
WITH HANDS AND FEET PIERCED
Prophecy:
Psalm 22:16 For dogs have
compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my
hands and my feet.
Zechariah 12:10 And I will
pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit
of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have
pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and
shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:35 And they
crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them,
and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
Luke 24:39 Behold my hands
and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not
flesh and bones, as ye see me have.
John 19:18 Where they
crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the
midst.
John 19:37 And again another
scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
John 20:20, 24-28 And when he
had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples
glad, when they saw the Lord. . . But Thomas, one of the twelve, called
Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said
unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in
his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the
nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight
days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus,
the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then
saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach
hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but
believing. And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Revelation 1:7 Behold, he
cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced
him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
SOLDIERS
GAMBLED FOR HIS CLOTHING
Prophecy:
Psalm 22:18 They part my
garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture.
Fulfillment:
Matthew 27:35 And they
crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be
fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them,
and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
BE
THIRSTY ON THE CROSS
Prophecy:
Psalm 22:15 My strength is
dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou
hast brought me into the dust of death.
Fulfillment:
John 19:28 After this, Jesus
knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be
fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
OFFERED
VINEGAR FOR HIS THIRST
Prophecy:
Psalm 69:21 They gave me also
gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
Fulfillment:
John 19:29 Now there was set a
vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put
it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
NO
BONES BROKEN
Prophecy:
Exodus 12:46 In one house
shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of
the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. (This was concerning the Passover lamb. Jesus was the
final and perfect Passover Lamb.)
Psalm 34:20 He keepeth all his
bones: not one of them is broken.
Fulfillment:
John 19:33-36 But when they
came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there
out blood and water. And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true:
and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. For these things were
done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be
broken.
